The Batax Story

BATAX is a board game developed by Lance Yeomans, Les Cornier and Ellie Cross. One Artist, one computer technologist and one graphic designer.

BATAX gradually evolved from a sketchy concept through a series of designs into its final manifestation. It was played numerous times and the rules were continually rewritten. This was a time of fun, frustration, and then the found! Fluent play has been achieved. Throughout the games development variations of piece shapes, board dimensions, colours and materials were investigated.

BATAX is chess like, it is tactical and cerebral. Player’s will increase their skill level every time they play. With numerous piece moves to choose from strategies can be developed and every game is different.

BATAX has a Novice version where the dice and the moves govern the play, and a Master version where dice, moves, and memory, combine to govern the play. There are three ways to win both game levels.

BATAX rules are not complex and therefore it is enjoyable from the very first game. BATAX games vary in time length.

BATAX is easily laid out. It has sixteen robust pieces, one board and one dice. Although it is primarily a two-person game four people, two per side, taking alternate goes could still enjoy its challenge.

BATAX pieces are made from environmentally friendly Valchromat fibreboard coloured by organic dyes.  The board is a duck canvas sheet. For the packaging, with strength in mind, we chose a tube.

BATAX'S attractive graphics were designed by Ellie Cross and by chance a label was presented up to a tube box on a diagonal slant. This orientation had a quirky feel and we decided to adopt this. Ok it’s different but then we believe that our game is unique, so why not go with this design moment.

BATAX is an addictive game and not designed to spend its life lost in a cupboard.
